About The Infinite Why
The world is stranger, kinder, and more interesting than the headlines sometimes allow us to see.
The Infinite Why began with a fairly simple frustration: too much of what reaches us about the world is designed to make us frightened, angry, or certain.
Yet beneath all that noise are extraordinary stories, discoveries, people, and ideas that rarely receive the attention they deserve.
This project is an attempt to look for them.
Some stories will offer evidence for hope. Others will take something apparently ordinary and reveal it to be far stranger than we thought. Some will introduce people whose work deserves to be better known. And sometimes we'll simply follow an interesting question wherever it leads.
What connects them is curiosity, evidence, and the belief that paying closer attention to the world can change how we understand it.
Two ways of looking
Proof of Hope looks for hope that has earned its place: kindness with consequences, conservation that works, discoveries that change possibilities, communities solving difficult problems, and people quietly making things better.
Not optimism for its own sake. Evidence that despair is never the whole story.
Explore Proof of HopeOrdinary Astonishment begins with things we think we already understand: memory, language, perception, history, behaviour, the body, the everyday world around us.
Then it looks again. Because familiarity often hides just how peculiar, complicated and remarkable ordinary things really are.

It is an argument for looking at more of it.
For resisting the idea that the loudest story is always the most important one. For remaining curious when certainty would be easier. And for making room for evidence of generosity, complexity, ingenuity, beauty and change alongside everything that is difficult.
New stories are published regularly, with a weekly letter bringing together recent stories and discoveries.
